Unveil

Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 7, 2026

Unveil is a Chrome extension that helps job seekers assess potential ghost-job risk on career pages.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Unveil processes and how it is used.

1. Information processed from job pages

When Unveil checks a job listing, it may process information visible on the current page, including:

Page URL and hostname

Job title

Job location

Job description

Other visible text related to the listing

This information is sent to the Unveil backend so the listing can be matched against Unveil's database and assessed.

Unveil uses this information to provide a risk score, confidence level, and relevant risk signals.

2. Company tracking requests

If Unveil does not currently support a company, you may request that the company be tracked.

When you submit a request, Unveil processes:

The company domain

The company name, where available

A randomly generated identifier associated with your extension installation

The installation identifier is used to prevent the same installation from repeatedly requesting the same company.

Before being stored in Unveil's database, the identifier is transformed using a keyed cryptographic hash.

Company request totals may be used to help Unveil prioritize which companies to support next.

3. Technical and security information

Unveil may process limited technical information, including IP addresses and request metadata, to:

Apply rate limits

Prevent automated or abusive requests

Protect the availability and security of the service

Diagnose technical problems

4. Local extension storage

Unveil uses Chrome local storage to keep information needed for the extension to function.

This currently includes:

A randomly generated installation identifier

A record of companies already requested from that installation

This allows the extension to remember request status between page visits.

5. How information is used

Information processed by Unveil is used to:

Identify supported companies and job listings

Match job listings against Unveil's database

Generate ghost-job risk assessments

Improve matching and scoring

Process requests for additional companies

Maintain, secure, and debug the service

Measure reliability and improve coverage

6. Storage and retention

Unveil may retain company tracking requests, pseudonymous identifiers, processed job information, and limited technical logs for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, maintain, and improve the service.

Information stored locally by the extension remains in Chrome storage until it is cleared, removed with the extension, or changed by a future version of Unveil.

7. Service providers

Unveil uses third-party infrastructure providers for services such as hosting, databases, and networking.

These providers may process limited information on Unveil's behalf where necessary to operate the service.

Unveil does not sell user data or use it for advertising.

8. Third-party career websites

Unveil works on career websites and applicant tracking systems operated by third parties.

Those websites have their own privacy policies and data practices, which are separate from Unveil.

9. Security

Unveil uses technical safeguards including pseudonymous identifiers, cryptographic hashing, rate limiting, duplicate-request protection, request limits, and restricted backend access.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy

Unveil may update this Privacy Policy as the extension, its features, or its data practices change.

The current version will always be published on the Unveil website with its effective date.

Where required, additional notice will be provided for material changes.

By installing or using Unveil, you acknowledge that you have been provided access to this Privacy Policy and understand that information is processed as described here.
